XX years ago I heard the tune tune got me hooked on Dobro. It was Mike
Auldridge's solo on the Paul Craft song "Keep Me From Blowin' Away".
Was it "Act III"? I'm too lazy to find it.
It was a joy to hear "John Starling and Carolina Star" last nite at the
"Old Schoolhouse" in Lucketts, VA. The band was loose and Mike was
pretty hot. They finished the set with the Gram Parsons tune "In My
Hour of Darkness".
Jimmie Gaudreau and Jay Starling left band for the encore leaving the
stage to those three friends, John Starling, Tom Gray and Mike
Auldridge. They blew me away by playing _MY_ song. I think its been at
least 25 years since I heard John sing that. Man, the short hairs on the
back of my neck were standing straight up. The SRO room was dead quiet.
Whew.....!
"Oh Lord if you hear me
Touch me and hold me
And keep me from blowing away"
