Take it from someone who has planned and hosted a number of workshops - it's not
always that easy to get the necessary numbers.
It all depends on what the player needs to make it work. I had good numbers for
the first Heffernan workshop I hosted. The second not as good, and the third
never took off. These were all a couple years apart.
I recently hosted an Ivan workshop and we got the needed numbers, but could have
had a few more to help out Ivan. Of course the lower numbers were better for the
students.
Now keep in mind that Ivan and Jimmy have a reputation out there for doing
workshops, and being excellent teachers. And both have learning materials
available.
Folks hooked up to the web at this site and Reso-Nation know who Johnny is, they
just don't have much knowledge of his workshops in the past. And becasue of this
I think the $250 may have been a bit steep. Rockygrass is $475 for 4+ days with
Sally Van Meter and Andy Hall, as well as classes in all things music from other
top notch players. It is the Holy Grail of workshops AFAIK.
