Hey, thanks Phil,

The venue has specifically requested NO food and beverage vendors, as the
location is a watering hole/ eatery. But there should be a few vendors to
help with some of the cost. I'm not sure we can pull off a "non-profit"
status since the property we're using is definitely for profit. In the next
few days, we should have some posters printed up and we're gonna ask the
bands to post them around to generate interest, plus some air time on the
local radio stations that cater to Bluegrass.

I sure wish Richie could get Champ down this way, but I understand schedule
conflicts. We got a listing on bbu.org, the Boston Bluegrass Union website,
so everybody knows where to go and see the show. We can't have fires, but
there should be a few fiddles, and dobros! Hope to see more than a few kids,
and Lisa has "vittles cookin'. Mid July, so the weather should be fair.
Alice will most assuridly have a chair right in front of the stage if we can
get her there. So I got all those bases covered. Plus, there's no cow pies
in the field!

I started a bluegrass festival
(www.sacajaweabluegrassfestival.org<http://www.sacajaweabluegrassfestivalorg/>;)
5 years ago (as a schedule C non profit so if you go bust the courts will
forgive your) and we will have our 5th in June at Sacajawea State Park at
the confluence of the Columbia and Snake river in Washington state. To help
get volunteers I and my picking buddies started the Mid-Columbia Bluegrass
Association and we are now a federal nonprofit (501c3). We usually get local
talent and one bigger band. We do have a great location and the treasurer is
the park ranger and an old snow ski buddy and fiddle, guitar, mandolin
player. We now have about 150 volinteers who pay for the weekend pass too. I
also pay the for weekend pass to help pay for bands, sound , potties. You
could also get vendors to sell stuff and food and sell vendor space. The
only free passes is under 15 years old and the bands you hire, remember
every pass is important. Oh you will need festival insurance and if you or a
vendor sell alcohol the price will be a lot, make sure the vendor pays all
additional cost.

Well, maybe I can get another discussion going, then.

Boy, throwing together a festival, maybe I bit off a bit more than I can
chew. I got 7 bands lined up, with a headliner for each day. I also have
about 15 time slots to fill, so each band should be able to do 2 sets. We
got RV parking available, but you got to bring your own water, and no
campfires. But we should have some real good pickin' all day on stage and
all night under the awning. We're getting a few vendors to pay for the
porta-potties, and advertising is starting up.

Now the trouble starts. I want to make sure the bands get enough to pay
for
gas. I want to make sure we got the best sound available. And the venue
owner wants to make sure she makes money. After listening to a particular
Pine Hill Ramblers song over and over again, I don't think the song quite
  covers all the bases.

So, I'll take suggestions from Reso-Land. What would make you want to come
to a first year festival, buy a ticket and all, and a burger, and a bottle
  of suds.

  Thanks,

Dan (I need a vacation) in RI
