Good answer. Wouldn't expect folks from the Left Coast either. I
live on the Third Coast (Texas) and its too far away for me.
But other things may apply and be an issue.
Johnny Bellar may not be as well known as the big names, and hasn't
built up the credibility of Jimmy Heffernan.
Price/cost may be another factor. With the shocking rise of gas
prices, not many folks are thinking of driving far from home. Its
just something to consider when climbing in your car to drive, 2, 3,
4 hours or more to a workshop. And if then for a weekend, then a
motel room must be considered along with meals while out of town.
Johnny Bellar has won the national dobro championship and is most
certainly a stellar player. He has at least 11 CDs of which I have
them all. He needs compensation for his drive or flight expenses to
NC and also motel stay and meals too. He has costs to consider.
Where do the scales balance then? Does he charge too much for the
one or two day event? Maybe so. But how much is too cheap and he
makes nothing and only spends time which we all don't have that much
of anymore. I'd like to see him come to Texas but don't know if we
can round up enough folks to have him do a workshop here? How bout
you Texas Dobro Clubbers and folks from Louisiana? Can we get
interest for him here in Texas?
