Do you have thin fingertips or thick fingertips? What kind of picks are you
using and what is the gauge of the metal/plastic. If the picks are too tight (and
stiff) this can cause some pain.
Do you have this problem on all 5 fingers or just specific fingers? I used to
have a similar problem with soreness on my pinky (my thinnest fingertip).
Getting that finger-pick sized just right has always been a problem for me
(though it has gotten easier with practice). I also had to experiment with
different gauges to find the right match.
How long have you been playing and how much practicing do you do per day? What
is the ratio of your playing with and without picks? I seldom use finger-picks
these days but if I have been away from my instruments for a couple of weeks I
too have put picks on because my bare fingers will get sore if I play a lot.
I am sure that this Forum has plenty of resources which can offer you useful
guidance but finger-pick are a very individual thing and not everyone has the
same size fingers and not everyone wears finger-picks the same way so we will
want exchange a little more information to have a useful dialog.
