I have had fairly good results shaping my finger picks with round-nose pliers.
I have a pair made by X-Acto years ago. I don't think they make them any more.
A quick Google found them at
http://www.firemountaingems.com/shopping.asp?SKW=KWTOOLPLIERS

They have no sharp edges to cut the pick metal when gripping the pick to bend
it.

Pliers seem necessary to avoid having the picks bend at the holes and not in
between.

And I have had good results with the saliva method. A little is sufficient. I
don't have to slobber on my fingers. :-)
