A good excuse to get some lobster. I will try the rubber band, probably a
brocoli one though. I notice already a more natural feel moving my index finger a
little further up the bar (Scheerhorn) to have it curl down the end. This also
seems to put my ring finger in a better position on the strings.
I use the propiks and I can fit them really well around my finger tips. This
seems to have helped my right hand technique a lot. I was getting too much pick
and not enough finger before, I think, and sacrificing some strength and control
with the picking. I can feel more sensation on the fingers now, and I like
that...seems to help the quality of the tone as well.
Thanks everyone for all the suggestions and comments.
Sean in IL (harder to find lobstah here)

I used to get rather painfull cramps in my bar hand. Add to that, I'd be
playing up around the 12th to 14th fret and notice half the bar was beyond
my finger tips. I put 2 and 2 together and surmised my cramps were caused by
me trying not to drop the bar.

Luckily, a tip came to me via resoguit-list to use a rubber band from either
brocoli or a lobstah claw (clawre in Rhode Island accent). Like I need
another excuse to eat lobstah! I put a band on my SP-3 and the cramps went
away immediately.

Hmmmm...... I wonder if the wife is planning anything for supper?  &%$# Band
practice tonight. Hey, I bet we could run down to the shore for supper
tomorrow night. I hope she never finds out that brocoli has the same bands.
