Subject:Re: [RESOGUIT-L] Announcing adjustable No. 14 spider

Interesting spider, Howard. I'm not sure I fully understand it, though. Is
there a plate on the inside that clamps the saddles or just 4 screw ends?
From painful experience I've learned that nothing substitutes for
well-fitted and seated saddles. I've never even heard of gluing
saddles--glue shouldn't be necessary if the saddles are well proportioned,
right? Even so, I can see where your spider could help an otherwise
well-made saddle that got sanded a little too thin, if it was seated on the
bottom of the slot. But does this device really allow you to raise the
saddles (off the bottom of the slot, I presume) and still retain the fullest
sound possible?

All due respect here, I'm sure no luthier, just a player who's done a lot of
hot-rodding over the years. This looks like a neat innovation and I
probably just can't see everything that's going on. My guess is that the
screws aid in the transmission of the sound?

Best wishes,
Jim Norman
