In ear monitors do block out external sound, which is how you can use
them at lower, safer volumes. You do need to avoid using an in-ear in
only one ear, which will cause you to turn up the volume on the in-
ear, damaging both ears (assuming stage volume is a problem). You
also need to make sure there is a limiter.
