I am using the Shure PSM200 (the cheapest ones) right now, which has a
hard limiter that cannot be bypassed (I think one can bypass the limiter
on some other models). The monitor mix is running only to the in-ears,
so even if there's feedback in the mains, it does not reach the in-ears,
except whatever ambient sound might make it. The limiter IS handy and
very effective when someone, say, bangs into a mic or somesuch. We
don't have huge feedback probs in the first place so we tend to keep
monitor levels pretty low.
