I've been listening to Jerry's latest, "Glide" and just lovin' it a lot.
This latest project highlights lovely melodies in addition to the just
amazing technique that you've come to expect from Mr Douglas.
What surprises me in this project is that Jerry does not rely
exclusively on the JD Band. Tony Rice appears on several tracks
including "Home Sweet Home", where Jerry and Earl Scruggs trade off.
You'd think that Tony would take a solo, but...nooooo. <g>. What a
tribute to Earl!
Favorites? Hmmm...I have a soft spot for Rodney Crowell who sings his
own "Long Hard Road(The Sharecropper's Dream)". Liner notes say Jerry
sings background vocals.
"Two Small cars In Rome" is a lovely melody with an instrumental duet
with Jerry and Loyd Green on pedal steel.
The fun "Sway Sur La Rue Royale" transitions from the metal body
resonator to a full dixeieland band, tuba and all. I'm saving this
track for Mardi Gras.
I love this disc.
