I think you'll find what your looking for at www.get-tuned.com. This site
has the relationship of various stringed instrument tunings to a piano. As
it turns out, I was correct in my first post, the 1st fret 2nd string
actually corresponds pitch wise to a piano middle c. This was what I
remembered until I got some bad info from another site. As you will see if
you look at the site, a violin is tuned an octave above the guitar.
However, as was mentioned, musical notation for the spanish guitar is
written on the g cleff rather than the bass cleff. This was probably done
because pitch wise the guitar is tuned to the high end of the bass cleff,
and it's easier to read the music when it's written in the middle of the
staff. John
