Just wanted to drop a note to everybody who voted for us in the Virginia
Commonwealth University 40th Anniversary band competition. I put out the call
for support several weeks ago, and judging by the results, you all must have
responded. VCU has finally posted the results:

Thanks to you all, Becky Taylor & Open Fire secured the slot for best local bluegrass/country band. (Which is a relief, since the first notification we received indicated we'd won in the hip-hop slot.)
So think about coming out to Monroe Park on Saturday, October 25th, if you're in
the Richmond, Virginia, area. We'll be kicking things off at noon.
And if you're in range of WSVS AM 800 out of Crewe, Virginia, we'll be
broadcasting live this Saturday on the High Noon Hoedown show hosted by Mel
Payne. This is a cool venue. The studio is the one that Flatt & Scruggs worked out of for awhile in the 50s and has been preserved pretty much in its original state. The station has a wide coverage area from Richmond to the northeast and the North Carolina line south.
And finally if you can be in the Ashland, Virginia, area next Wednesday, Becky
is kicking off the Broken Records Concert Series with a show featuring the
wonderful clawhammer banjoist Adam Hurt. Open Fire will open the show with a
short set, so you get a little bluegrass and a little old time in the same show.
Here's the scoop:

500 South Center Street, Ashland, Virginia 23005
Cost: $12
Open Fire will host a series of concerts starting October 15 with shows starting
at 7PM. Clawhammer banjo stylist Adam Hurt is guest artist in October. Don't miss
our debut monthly show. Look for great acoustic music in this new high quality
listening venue at the Hanover Arts and Activities Center. Doors open at
6:15...first come first serve.

Hope to see you at either or both events. Thanks for the votes.
