Wow Dan!

"Twang da Halls" and GO FOR IT MAN!  One of the things I'm learning (very late
in life) is not to be affraid to experiment with different tunings.  While I
admit that 99.9% of great dobro instrumentals are in the traditional G maj.
tuning, every now and then, changing a string's note makes all the difference in
the world.  Raising that 4th string, very carefully, from D to E to get that
G6th tuning for a "western swing" sound is the best example I can think of
without really trying to explain more theory,  than I know myself.

Maybe someone will tape Essie and you, and I might hear it at Joe Val?

Hey Listers, a good friend of mine, Tommy Mirsola, who own "The American Banjo
Company" that makes those pretty "Kel Kroyden" banjos, sent me a clip from You
Tube about a "Dojo" made by Goldtone.  Check it out.  A resonator body with a
banjo's neck!  Actually sounded pretty good to these old ears.  My reply to
Tommy was......"Wow, somebody finally got it right!"

Your mileage may   vary on "Dojos," but TWANG DA HALLS anyways, because "tiz
the season".........

Richie

(my cup is 1/2 empty because that scalawag Larue snitched it while I was off
 twangin somewheres ......)

ps.....deliberately not cleaning off previous posts this time because you've all
been too darn quiet!

I got a bit of fun coming up this Christmas season, myself. Recently, the
Pastor of our Church had me address the adult Sunday School on how playing
the dobro relates to my faith. I did a sing-along of some traditional Gospel
songs. Afterwards, the Pastor asked if I'd be willing to accompany my Wife
on Christmas Eve as she sings "Mary Did You Know." My wife is an amazing
Mezzo Soprano and I know she will leave the congregation speachless with her
vocals. I hope Hazel Dobro and I are up to the task. I got the sheet music,
and it's certainly a job for GBEgbd tuning.

If anybody is in the area, it's First Baptist Church in America located in
Providence, RI

Regards,

Dan in RI
