In a recent paper, appended, Frances Hutchinson and
Mary Mellor irresponsibly repeat the bogus Lincoln
"quote" from the "Senate document" in "1865":-
The words, as Keith Wilde has informed us, were
actually fabricated by a Canadian politician (McGeer)
in the 1930s.
----------------------
-----------------------
"Abraham Lincoln in 1865 set out in a Senate document
his monetary policy just weeks before he was
assassinated:
"Money is the creature of law, and the creation of the
original issue of money should be maintained as the
exclusive monopoly of national government...(which)
possessing the power to create and issue currency and
credit as money...should create, issue and circulate
all the currency and credit needed to satisfy the
spending power of the government and the buying power
of consumers...the people can and will be furnished
with a currency as safe as their own government. Money
will cease to be the master and become the servant of
humanity. Democracy will rise superior to the money
power."
(Rowbotham 1998:220-1)
