You are right Wally.
But the reasons can only be understood when what that the great
institutions of economic teaching were putting out was challenged.
As you pointed out previously. The doctrine of scarcity. then the idea of
the necessity to achieve a "positive" balance of Trade. Finally the
defeat of the great scourge "unemployment".
There are reasons, at least this side of the pond, for the ordinary person
to think they see the truth in each of these great ideas. And its only
when enough time, and the motivation is there, that the flaws in all these
can be seen.
Then they have a REAL fight on their hands.
