Peter. You put your finger on what for me is problematical.

I enjoy immensely the jousting of minds much greater at the intellectual
than I. So a fall back position for me is essential.

As a committed Christian I am easily confused by not understanding what is
written and said.

But in general, I do understand what is MEANT .

And the story of the Temple moneychangers, for me at least, is crystal
clear.

Ken.

In reply to W.B.Ryan:
I also believe that there was no implication regards reference to the
trinity, suggesting it was evil. Ken asked a good question because the
'trinity' needs clarifying.
I also think that the response to W. McG. regarding the 'rather pathetic
mentality' is also a false alarm. The context related to the ability of
man to understand the fulness of God. This context included a spiritually
woken person, so forget rationalising and philosophical theories of those
not spiritually awake. The scriptures challenges- who can know the mind of
God ( forget the rest of Him). Paul's visit to Mars Hill and what he
found the Greek philosophers had to offer in decoding God shows how
pathetic logic and rationalising is, then of course there is a whole host
of religions around the world all trying to discover god/s, in some cases
thousands of gods. Speaks of confusion, as they should because many have
descended from ancient Babylon.

The Bible tells us that we are made in the image of God. 'Emulation'
indicates 'equal' according to my dictionary and may prove to be a
mine-field. I wouldnt go down that path.

"The incident had nothing to do with the money system or banking". Its a
pity it wasnt said what it was rather than what it wasnt. What does "the
money system" mean. Who's money system?
Clearly it had everything to do with money and some system although not
with banking. The practice of usurping a public utility that captures a
'market'which can then be extorted certainly has a parallel with what we
are concerned with today.
I have read that the money changing was also tied up with selling the
doves and kids and lambs etc to the citizens for presenting for sacrifice
at the Temple, and although they were required to be without blemish, the
stock wasdefective, meaning they were bought cheap and sold as good stock.
I would suspect the Sandedrin had a finger in this pie for it to be
allowed to happen. It also seemed to me that the decision to terminate
the Man came very soon after he touched their money racket.
I dont recall any provision made for a commercial sector within the wall
surrounding the Temple site in the original plans. Once you have selling
you will get IOUs which would lead to fees for paying later. And if there
are only seven lambs left and ten people want them, we can guess what
would have started to happen. I this inclusive logistic progression?
Jesus made it very clear how we were to be guided into all truth - the
Spirit of Truth, which is why He had to leave ( again/second time). This
is pertinent also regarding concerns about translations.
