I meant also to comment on Errico-Lamsa. This came onto this list originally from a mistake on my part, and I am kind of impressed that Ryan knew who they were. A correction: they are Nestorians, but they are not monophysites (these are opposites). I also wanted to mention that Lamsa's "Gospel Light" is now superceded by individual volumes on Matthew, Mark /Luke, John, Acts, and Romans/Corinthians. (The passage Ryan quotes from "Gospel Light" appears in the John volume.) They are titled "Aramaic Light on the Gospel of Matthew," "Aramaic Light on the Gospels of Mark and Luke," etc. You can buy them on amazon.com. I find them extremely valuable indeed.
On this particular incident of the money-changers, however, I am more apt to see it in terms of Jesus' rejection of animal sacrifice.
