I finally was able to spend a lunch hour at the National Library and Archives.
Douglas testimony was given on a few days extending from April 24 to May
3, 1923, as Wally's information (below) stated. It is bound in a volume
described as the "Seventh Report of the Select Committee on Banking and
Commerce. Minutes and Proceedings re Bill No. 83, An Act respecting Banks and
Banking". The volume is further identified as "Appendix No. 2 to the 60th
Volume, Journals , House of Commons, Canada, January-June Session, 1923.
Douglas was introduced by the chairman on page 416 and his opening statement
begins on page 417, as Wally said. nd he does come back for a precision
requested by one of the Committee, on May 3rd. That is the material on pp.
695-98. Between pages 417 and 499 the Committee heard from another informant as
well as Hugh Douglas. That could
account for Wally's lack of certainty over whether he has "most or all of the
relevant sections". The volume is in good condition and is on the shelf in
the main reading room of the Library. I inquired about the possibilities of
getting a copy in electronic form, but was told it is unlikely, for a document
that recent. It can be photocopied, of course, but Wally already has it in that
format. If you can tell me where (at what pages) you think you might be
missing some of the exchange between Douglas and the Committee, Wally, I can
have a look in the book to determine if in fact anything is missing. Sorry
to have been so slow with this. I have had an unremitting sequence of computer
and communications problems since late June. Keith

appreciated. I don't have much difficulty in scanning as I have a document
feeder and Iris which seems to be quite a good OCR program. So if it presents a
problem for you I can do it quite readily. We have the Provincial Archives here
in Edmonton also--I will contact them. Meanwhile I will be interested in any
success which you may have at your end.
