Request for William B. Ryan
I have a request. As you are very active member of
socialcredit list and also very well informed about
economic matters, could you please deliver a concise
explanation of your position concerning possible
monetary reforms, while as I read you are neither
socialcrediter nor proponent of local cc schemes.
regards
Kristof Levandovski

I think I said, Kristof, that I do not call myself a
social crediter, but do admit to being profoundly
influenced by the writings of C. H. Douglas. I do not
admit to agreeing with every word that he wrote, but
admit to not understanding much of it. One of the
purposes of this list is to help us gain an
understanding of what he really wrote and said.
The exemplar reforms suggested by Douglas are the
national dividend and retail discount programs, where
credit is posted to the accounts of final consumers,
thereby boosting effective demand against the costs of
production being impressed to the point of retail
through prices. This has the effect of increasing the
rate of profit to entrepreneurs so that they do not
suppress production short of the limits of productive
capacity and real demand.
I invite you to look at the introductory materials at
http://www.geocities.com/socredus/compendium and
particularly at Geoffrey Dobbs' introduction to
Douglas' first book, *Economic Democracy.*

That book is now available at Google Books
