                                         FOOD CRISIS AND MONEY CRISIS

                                         By Eric V. Encina

Food Crisis and Financial- Economic Crisis in the Philippines and in the whole world is very challening and tough issue this 2008. This can also be an exciting issue for the Social Crediters and monetary reformers,  and for  those working for monetary  economic justice.

According to the news, THE PHILIPPINE STAR NEWSPAPER, April 20, 2008, from the Star Washington Bureau reports  that USA Rice Federation finds  it  difficult for the overseas rice suppliers to meet the rice demands of the Philippines as there is strong demands for rice overseas as well as its tight availability.

USA must also be prepared for any possible rice or food  crisis in their  country where in fact it is also  susceptible to worsening financial crisis as there are signs of economic slowdown and  since oil hits record high of $117 per barrel. Other countries must also be prepared. IS THERE A POSSIBLE WORLDWIDE FOOD CRISIS?

According to Jim Guinn, vice president of the International Promotion of USA Rice, "the situation is not likely to improve until late July or August when the new harvest season starts." However he assured that the USA Rice Federation, an organization of rice producers, millers and merchants, can meet the rice demands of the Philippines. "We will try to do evedrything we can to help the Philippines', Guinn said.

It has been also reported that US Rice exports in 2008 have soared by more than 20% over that last year, helped by strong and overseas demand for the staple.

US CREDIT GUARANTEE OR ANOTHER DEBT SCHEME  arising from RICE or Food  CRISIS: THE FINANCIERS IN ACTION TO MAKE MORE MONEY.

Jim Guinn said that the group is prepared to support more credit  guarantees for the Philippines from the USDA's or US Department of Agriculture's GSM programme. This programme  promotes the sales of US farm goods (GMO)  to DEVELOPING COUNTRIES BY ASSURING LENDERS (bankers) they will get paid even if a BORROWER defaults payment. This is another problem after problem. There is already a rice or food crisis in fact as a result of debt-based financial system that causes lifetime money crisis, and now there would be another contract of debts! THAT MEANS, PHILIPPINES HAS ALREADY BORROWED money, reportedly, $75 MILLION FROM THE US LENDERS OR BANKERS (that only create money out of nothing)  AS SO-CALLED GSM CREDIT GUARANTEE this 2008 TO BUY RICE although the funds cannot be  made available under the program since the US FARM law is set to expire. But those involved are doing everything possible to make this facilitated to buy rice from loan capital.

THE QUESTION: WHY TO LOAN TO PHILIPPINES WHEN IT IS NOT AVAILABLE TO BE USED FOR THAT PURPOSE? To get Philippines in another debt without any purpose but but to get the country in the dungeron of debt is indeed  a folly.

THE BANKERS ARE OPPORTUNISTIC IN TIMES OF CRISIS TO MAKE MORE MONEY.

Certainly, bankers can make more money and profits out of food or rice  crisis. THE BANKERS DO NOT OFFER DEBT FREE MONEY TO HELP THE FARMERS FOR FOOD PRODUCTION OR IMPROVE FARMING. They lend only to those who are qualified to pay at interest, no matter what would be result or yields of the project or enterprise.

It has been also reported that US rice exporters believe that there might be an easing of the worldwide shortage of rice by the end of 2008 but prices are also expected to increase further. THIS IS ANOTHER PROBLEM. Most poor families can hardly afford to buy good quality rice for their needs. FILIPINO FAMILIES CANNOT AFFORD TO BUY  IMPORTED RICE. That's why there are poor families here by the hundreds of thousands or millions all over the country LINING UP IN QUEU to buying the NFA rice--the cheapest and the lowest quality rice for these families to have rice to eat at least twice or once a day.

I HAVE ANOTHER SUGGESTION:

INCREASE THE CIRCULATION OF MONEY BY THE DISTRIBUTION OF EXTRA BASIC INCOME OR SUPPLEMENTARY BASIC INCOME TO EVERY POOR FILIPINO FAMILY so that they can buy good quality rice or even imported rice. ONCE AGAIN, REPEATEDLY, THE VERY ROOT-CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM IS THE ACUTE SHORTAGE OF MONEY, losing its value and the increasing prices of basic needs, commodities and services. MONEY CRISIS leads to food crisis.

THIS IS THE GRAVE EFFECT OF DEBT MONEY SYSTEM operation in the country and in the world.

Some analysts are saying that the WEAKNESS of the US$dollar has somewhat offset long distance shipping costs but pointed out that some countries like INDIA, for instance, which is closer to the Philippines, charges exorbitant US$1,000 per metric ton of BASMATI RICE, which is more costly indeed than US rice.

I NEED ANALYTICAL COMMENTS about this crazy statement. WHY DO WE NEED TO DEVALUATE THE US$ just for the sake of exporting products to other countries. THE US FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM is responsible for this.

It means the US dollar depreciation is believed to be helpful to offset the exports of US rice oveseas. How could it be? The financial system is playing a game by demonstrating that there is actually negative and positive effects of currency devaluation. But still the country and the people are in debt.

THE SOCIAL CREDIT  MONETARY REFORM PROPOSAL is that:

THE GOVERNMENT MUST FACILITATE FOR DEBT FREE MONEY CREATION by the facilities of the CENTRAL BANK either by legislation to do so  or even  without it, particularly,  in times of expediency or emergency that PRESIDENT can do this through EMERGENCY PRESIDENTIAL POWER,  if possible back up by the people, to finance the agricultural or farm development or enhance food production and security without incurring any debts. BORROWING MONEY at interest  FROM THE COMMERCIAL, PRIVATE, FOREIGN AND INTERNATIONAL BANKS for agricultural, farming development or food production  only and usually  for the benefits and profits  of the multinational chemical corporations, is therefore another catastrophe, another vicious cycles of debt which at the end, it is the bankers who are the winner, the farmers remain the poor and the inhabitants hungry.

The neglect of agriculture and farming development in the Philippines that results to present food crisis that has added to tremendous financial crisis without end   because there is no funding for development,  is therefore also  inexcusable.

The debt free money creation is the only solution. Some say the solution to food crisis is artificial population control programme or some are radical to promote abortion of unborn children or even some are thinking infanticide or genocide.

THE TRUTH IS: there is food crisis or even production crisis in the Philippines and in the world  because of debt-based money crisis.

I welcome comments.
