We are sold the story that such "reportage" is a part of the battle
against the drugs trade. I have my own view about that situation.
As for payments methods, here in the UK DEBIT cards are free to use, and I
think the reception costs are zero too, but I am not certain if there is a
cost to have the terminals.
Personally the DEBIT card is what I use, especially as there is, at most
large outlets, a "cashback " facility, again free. Very convenient, even
better than chasing around for an ATM.
Allied to computer banking, it helps us to not overspend :-)
The cheque has bitten the dust.
I don't like CREDIT cards, the interest charged is generally high here,
with some "Store cards" charging as high as 30%. 19% seems about the norm.
I had to get a credit card in a hurry once as it was the only way that I
could book a Chicago hotel :-))) The temptation to use it remains with us
Although I have been a MRer for many years I actually believe that plastic
CAN be a good thing. ALL depends upon who is in control, and under what
sort of circumstances it can be withdrawn.
Big subject ?
