NOVA 100 TO HOST forum on DEPRESSION & YOUTH SUICIDE
On Sunday, November 12, Nova’s All Ears turns the radio station over to
listeners to chat about key issues facing youth - Depression, Mental
Illness and Suicide.
The show coincides with the end of school for over 200,000 Australian
teenagers - a difficult time for students to make the big decision
about what to do next. Choices such as whether to continue studying,
look for work or take a year off can put pressure on young adults
wanting to make the right decision. Studies show this pressure can
lead to anxiety, depression and a feeling of helplessness.
Nova’s All Ears gives youth the chance to discuss these feeling /
issues in an open, non-judgemental way. Listeners can chat to experts
about how to cope with stress, how to detect worrying changes in
friends’ behaviour and where to turn to if it all gets too much.
The message to young people is that they are NOT ALONE.
Australians with first hand experience will be involved in Nova’s All Ears:
* NATHAN THOMPSON (Kangaroos Footy Player) who publicly battled
depression and has a story to share about how he overcame the illness.
* JEFF KENNET (Chairman of Beyond Blue and the Hawthorn Footy Club.)
* DAVID CAMPBELL (Entertainer) who experienced a period of hardship in
his life which he will talk openly about.
* PHRASE is a Melbourne Rap artist who works with REACH.
* ANALEE MATTHEWS who has a personal journey to share growing up as a
Vietnamese adoptee in rural Australia.
* DR JON STEBBINS (Grief Counsellor with ‘Compassionate Friends’) lost
his son to suicide and will discuss the grief and loss associated with
suicide.
Nova’s All Ears will be hosted by Nova’s CARRIE BICKMORE and
Youthworker MICHAEL COLLING, author of the book “Out of the Blue”.
