Rock
and Water is presented by The Family Action Centre in collaboration with The
Gadaku Institute. Workshops are delivered all over Australia. So far more than
10,000 teachers have received some form of training to deliver the program.
Rock
and Water was devised to offer teachers a new way to interact with boys through
physical-social teaching (though the program can also be taught to girls).
Physical exercises are constantly linked with mental and social skills. In this
way, the program leads from simple, self-defence, boundary and communication
exercises to a strong notion of self-confidence. The program offers a framework
of concrete exercises and supporting resources based on ideas about boys and
manhood to assist boys (and girls) to become aware of purpose and motivation in
their life. The program includes
numerous opportunities for boys and girls to explore their own identity,
learning and relationships in a non-threatening way. Many schools have
introduced Rock and Water as an effective anti-bullying
tool.
Some
of the topics include: intuition, body language, mental strength, empathic
feeling, positive thinking and positive visualising. Discussion topics include:
bullying, sexual harassment, homophobia, life goals, desires and following an
inner compass.
