GROOTE EYLANDT AND MILYAKBURRA YOUTH DEVELOPMENT UNIT
Coordinator
Location: Groote Eylandt, Northern Territory
Working closely with: Case Manager, Senior Youth Workers
Status: Full-time contract for 12 months (possible ongoing)
Reports to: Chairperson

A challenging and rewarding opportunity exists at the Groote Eylandt and Milyakburra Youth Development Unit. As the Coordinator, you would be working with the NT Police Youth Diversion Scheme and will be responsible for the operation and management of the Unit.
Position Description
Summary
The Coordinator is accountable to the Executive Committee, through the Chairperson for the total operating efficiency and effectiveness of the Groote Eylandt and Milyakburra Youth Development Unit Inc.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage the daily activities of the Groote Eylandt and Milyakburra Youth Development Unit, including financial, human resources and asset management
- Liaise with the Chairperson, Public Officer and other members of the Executive Committee
- Overseeing the implementation of the Strategic Plan 2005 and develop, implement and monitor programs targeted at the young people of Groote Eylandt and Milyakburra
- Liaise with government, GEMCO, non-government, Aboriginal community organisations, community councils and the media to project a positive image and functions of the Groote Eylandt and Milyakburra Youth Development Unit
- Generating income and developing a range of sponsorship focused relationships with identified government sources, business and trusts and foundations.
- Raise the profile of the organisation across professional, community and media outlets
- Prepare Grant Submissions, as appropriate
Essential Criteria
- Demonstrated management skills in the areas of youth development
- Management abilities in financial budgeting, human resources and public relations
- Demonstrated strategic and project management experience
- Ability to supervise staff and manage consultants
- Ability to liaise with and an acceptance by the traditional residents across Groote Eylandt and Milyakburra communities
- Demonstrated history of being able to generate funds for programs
- Well developed critical thinking and analytical skills
- Demonstrated strong interest and understanding of youth issues
- Understanding of the Northern Territory criminal justice system and restorative justice practices
- Excellent written and verbal communication skill
- Ability to work independently and within a small team environment
- Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities to achieve deadlines and positive outcomes
- Proficient computer skills (Microsoft outlook, word, power point, excel)
- Current drivers licence
Other information
- Salary will be negotiated with the successful applicant. Youth Development Unit salaries are drawn from the ‘Social and Community Services Award’
- Coordinator will be expected to work after hours and on weekends
- Successful applicants will be required to undergo a police check with spent convictions
- Position may require some travel throughout region utilising smaller aircraft and by boat.
