Hello youthgassers,
We are putting together a communications plan for 2007. The
Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman is a free and independent national service
for people who have not been able to resolve a complaint with their telecommunications
or internet service provider.
In the 2006 year, we had almost 6000 complaints about premium
rate SMS messages. These are generally reached by calling numbers with the
prefix 1900 and people can incur significant bills.
Although we don’t record the age of people who call
our service, we suspect that many people who incur these debts are young. We
also suspect that awareness of our scheme among young people is low.
Last year, we attended several conferences but would be keen
to know of any others that we might use to promote our service. (We are attending
the National Youth Affairs Conference in Melbourne
in May.)
Also, I would be keen to hear of any other cost-effective ways
that we could promote our service to young people.
Thanks
