Hi there Phillip,
You might have heard of TripleJ –
the national ABC radio station aimed at young people. They support the
advocacy of young people’s issues and I would suggest they might be
interested in airing adverts. Also, again as part of TripleJ, the Big Day
Out music events are being held at various capital cities throughout
January/February – you might want to get together a group of young people
from within your organization, to provide an info stand or roam around the
event promoting the service. Obviously, make the information youth
friendly by keeping it short and snappy – and ensure that the people
providing the information from your organisation are young (upto aged 25 or so),
as young people are more likely to take on info from their peers.
These suggestions aren’t likely to
be cost effective however. None-the-less, hope this info is of some use.
Cheers
Jo

Telecommunications Ombdusman
Hello youthgassers,
We are putting together a communications plan for
2007. The Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman is a free and independent
national service for people who have not been able to resolve a complaint with
their telecommunications or internet service provider.
In the 2006 year, we had almost 6000 complaints about
premium rate SMS messages. These are generally reached by calling numbers with
the prefix 1900 and people can incur significant bills.
Although we don’t record the age of people who
call our service, we suspect that many people who incur these debts are young.
We also suspect that awareness of our scheme among young people is low.
Last year, we attended several conferences but would
be keen to know of any others that we might use to promote our service. (We are
attending the National Youth Affairs Conference in Melbourne in May.)
Also, I would be keen to hear of any other
cost-effective ways that we could promote our service to young people.
Thanks
Phillip Money
