Following on
from the success of Thinking
Drinking 2020 in 2005,
Thinking
Drinking
II: From Problems to Solutions is a major
conference for professionals interested in alcohol issues from a variety of
fields including health and welfare, policy, research, law enforcement, local
government, community development and education.
The final
program includes a diverse range of speakers and topics. Recent developments
include:
§
The
Alcohol Policy Challenge:
Four experienced policy change experts, Tim
Costello, CEO of World Vision Australia, Odyssey House Victoria’s, David
Crosbie, Senator Andrew Murray of the Australian
Democrats and Gordon Broderick from the Distilled Spirits
Industry Council of Australia, take on the challenge to change Australia’s
current alcohol strategy in a facilitated discussion. The focus of the session
will be on how we could achieve a change in national alcohol policy, despite the
political, economic, social and cultural barriers.
§
Minds
at Work:
According to Jason, Ian, Lisa and Cassie aka the Minds at Work team, the key to
understanding – and therefore solving – any problem is to sort causes from
effects, something people rarely take time to do.
Thinking
Drinking
II will provide a wealth of information and ideas about alcohol misuses and its
impacts on society. The challenge for delegates is to put all this information
into some sort of coherent picture. The good news is that the Minds at Work team
will be on hand to help delegates process their thoughts and kick around
ideas and hopefully leave the conference with a clearer picture
of the problems and solutions in regard to alcohol
misuse.
