area in NSW.

Job Description
Title: Indigenous Youth Outreach Worker
Responsible to: Blue Mountains Aboriginal Culture and Resource Centre
(ACRC) Management Committee

Salary: Hourly
rate $25.87, Grade 4, year 1 Social
and Community Services (SACS) NSW (State) Award paid according to the Mountains
Community Resource Network Limited (MCRN) Recommended Rates
Hours: Eighteen
(18) hours per week position ending in July 2008. There will also be some
evening work included.
Summary of Position:
The following are the broad duties of this position:
·
Liaise with Blue Mountains Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Young people about their needs, focusing on
youth aged 15 – 18 years;
·
To provide an outreach service to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
Young people at risk of offending;
·
To link Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Youth with ongoing
educational opportunities;
·
Provide crisis intervention, support, advocacy and harm minimisation
activities;
·
Development of agency partnerships to enhance service delivery to young
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with complex needs;
·
Work with mainstream organisations to develop culturally-appropriate
services;
·
Provide culturally-appropriate referrals to other services;
Duties:
·
Evaulate the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait
Islander youth;
·
Assess and prioritise the needs of the local Aboriginal and Torres
Strait Islander Youth;
·
Initiate and implement responses to identified needs in accordance with
the project guidelines;
·
Implement early intervention Youth outreach services;
·
Establish partnerships with
educational bodies and / or providers, to assist young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in achieving their
educational attainments;
·
Monitor and evaluate actions
undertaken in collaboration with the Indigenous Youth Outreach Service
Committee;
·
Increase the usage of mainstream services by the Aboriginal and Torres
Strait Islander Youth;
·
Participate in the review, develop and implementation of a workplan for this position in line with funding agreement
and Aboriginal Culture & Resource Centre (ACRC) identified priorities;
·
Liaise and network with other Blue Mountains and Western
Sydney community organisations to take collaborative action to
meet identified needs
