Do you have a passion for helping young people get their opinions across? Then YouthSPEAK International is for you!
YouthSPEAK International is an apolitical, non-profit organisation whose primary aim is to encourage young people to engage with the community and with political issues in general through various mediums such as public speaking competitions and policy debates. YouthSPEAK is also a social network in which young people can create new contacts and friendships not only through our speaking competitions and policy conferences, however, also through various social events we hold.
In 2008 YouthSPEAK International will be expanding our annual public speaking competition for high school students. In past years the speaking competition had only been held in South-East Queensland. Albeit successful in its current incarnation, we have a desire to see the expansion of the competition as we feel young people in NSW and Victoria are not given this great opportunity to participate.
YouthSPEAK is currently looking for people around Australia who would be interested in taking part in helping organise the QLD, NSW and VIC legs of the competition. We are also looking for volunteers who would be interested in helping out on the day of competition. Below is a set of dates where we plan on holding the competitions.
QLD Heats: Approx Mid to end of March
NSW Heats: Approx end of March
VIC Heats: Approx mid to end of May
State finals: During July and start of August for each of the states respectively.
National Final: August/September.
Volunteers on the day could expect to contribute to the judging of the event.
All the plans are currently set in motion. YouthSPEAK requires motivated individuals to assist in the smooth transition of the overall project.
