has launched a youth website and
an educational YouTube video targeted at young Australian
s after a recent poll revealed more than half of young pe
ople were completely unaware of the effects of hepatitis
C on the body.

says the new website and video aims to provide younger A
ustralians with simple, straightforward information about
viral hepatitis.

"There was a Galaxy Poll conducted earl
ier this year about hepatitis awareness in the community,
and one of the most shocking findings was that nationwid
e among young people aged 16-24, 58% were unaware of the
affects of the virus on the body.
"These findings w
ere confirmed further when we conducted some informal on
the street interviews and found people struggled to answe
r simple questions about transmission of the hepatitis C
virus and its effects."

The hepatitis C virus affe
cts 260,000 Australians with an estimated 9,700 new infec
tions occurring every year. The World Health Organisation
estimates 170 million people worldwide are affected by h
epatitis C.
