Apologies for
x-posting
Hi
everyone,
As many of you would
know I'm leaving Vibewire in the next few months. After an amazing seven years it's
time to seek new challenges and experiences and time for someone new to lead
this unique organisation. It has been an indescribable honour and thrill to lead
Vibewire to this point in its development and to work with so many incredible
people along the way. I believe that Vibewire is in a great position to continue
to evolve and grow to provide better opportunities for citizenship and
expression for young Australians and that this is a great time to hand over the
baton to someone knew who can lead Vibewire through these new challenges.
As such we
are advertising the Vibewire CEO position.
Vibewire exists to
allow younger Australians to express themselves on the issues and cultures which
matter to them, in the form most appropriate to them. We provide both platforms
for creative and political expression and opportunities for young people to gain
the skills to better use them.
Vibewire is an
organisation that punches well above its weight. Our projects including
electionTracker, Vibewire.net, the Reelife Short Film Festival, the
e-Festival of Ideas, the sQuareOne media and arts project incubator in Sydney,
the recent NewConnections conference and various print projects including the
Interface Anthology. We have a small core team of staff supported by
considerable volunteer involvement. We work collaboratively with many
organisations including the City of Sydney, City of Melbourne, International
Institute for Communications Australia, UNICEF, Tsuki Communications, Australian
Teachers of Media, Dusseldorp Skills Forum and many more.
In late
2005 Vibewire was awarded the World Summit Youth Award for the Community
Engagement category, as well as being the highest point-scoring project overall.
The WSYA’s were for youth-led online projects designed
to encourage the active participation of young people in the emerging
Information Society and were
presented at the World Summit on the Information Society, held in Tunis,
Tunisia. For more
information on the awards, please see the WSYA website, www.youthaward.org and for more
information on the World Summit on the Information Society, please see the WSIS
website, http://www.itu.int/wsis/tunis/.
We are looking for a
dynamic young leader to continue Vibewire's growth and development. Candidates
should have experience with and knowledge of business systems (HR, budgeting,
reporting) and, preferably, previous involvement in a creative environment. A
passion for building youth engagement through media and arts is a given and an
interest in democracy, citizenship and new media a big plus. Experience in
fundraising, team management, partnership development and grant writing is also
important along with a commitment to non-partisanship and
transparency.
For the right person
this is the opportunity of a lifetime. Vibewire has a great track-record of
successful partnerships and is well-known in the youth sector. We have a great
team and an experienced and insightful young board to support the new CEO. There
will also be a month handover with the outgoing CEO, starting March 1. We have
recently restructured the organisation to create the role of Chief Operations
Officer and streamline our decision-making. With hard work and commitment
the new CEO will have the opportunity to lead the ongoing growth of the
organisation, growing and diversifying our funding sources, improving our
programming and evaluation and developing exciting new projects and ways of
operating.
Applications close
Monday January 21 at 5pm. Many email lists don't allow attachments so if the
Position Descriptions doesn't come through you can request a copy off me. I am
also happy to answer any questions.
Please pass this on
to anyone you think might be interested. If you have a successful young leader
in your organisation, much as I know you'd hate to lose them, this could be a
fantastic step for them and a huge opportunity for growth. Please consider
suggesting this to them.
Sincerely,
Tom
