Expand horizons on the Young Endeavour

A voyage on the tall ship, Young Endeavour, as a member of a youth crew is a unique challenge.  Onboard young people participate in an innovative youth development program designed to develop teamwork, communication and leadership skills and inspire a sense of community responsibility.

Youth crew learn how to sail the modern sailing ship; they climb the mast, take the helm, keep watch, navigate and help out in the galley.

Over 20 voyages are conducted each year exploring the Australian coastline by the Young Endeavour Youth Scheme, a not-for-profit organisation in partnership with the Royal Australian Navy. Young Endeavour Youth Scheme was recently awarded the International Sail Training Organisation of the Year.

A study by the University of Sydney demonstrated that the Young Endeavour Youth Scheme increases social skills, trust in others and the ability to bridge differences.  The study confirmed that the experience has an enduring impact on social skills, self control, goal achievement and self confidence.

It is also an adventure. Imagine sailing the Young Endeavour with 23 other young people  into Sydney Harbour on Australia Day, migrating north with the whales to Cairns or conquering Bass Strait on the way to Hobart.

Your organisation can create a scholarship and secure a berth for a young person of your choice.

Get onboard with an inspirational line-up of organisations such as youth agencies, rotary clubs, schools and sporting clubs who are sharing the adventure of a lifetime by creating a scholarship berth.

Or encourage a young person, aged 16-23, to apply now for a berth.

Youth crew are selected through a ballot held twice a year.  Applications for the second ballot (for voyages in the second half of 2008) can be made by visiting www.youngendeavour.gov.au or calling 1800 020 444.

But hurry, they need to be entered by 29 February 2008 to be in with a chance!

For more information on how you can expand the horizons of a young person by sharing the adventure of a lifetime sailing Young Endeavour please contact me.

regards
