Subject:[youthgas] Need help with funding/sponsorship (KaosPilots)
Date:Monday, January 28, 2008  23:26:03 (+0800)
From:Tiara S <divabat @.....com>

Dear all,

Firstly, thank you to everyone that contributed names and suggestions for the Inspiring Young People for your Event list. It grew to unimaginable proportions and the list is being put to good use - the IdeaFestival in Louisville, USA is keeping track, and some others have found it useful! It may soon grow into something more robust, so keep an eye out.

I need some help. I am planning to continue my studies in the KaosPilots (http://kaospilot.dk) social enterprise and business design school in Aarhus, Denmark in September this year. If my application is successful, I will be the first Asian (and in a sense Australian) KaosPilot in their 17-year history. This would be a great opportunity for me to learn how to develop and implement projects based on my passions of youth empowerment, experiential education, and cultural diversity.

To achieve my goal, I need a lot of help with funding and sponsorship. I need to find ways to cover the costs of tuition, travel, and living. I've been looking into grants and scholarships and the Foundation for Young Australians has a couple that sound interesting, but otherwise I'm finding it hard to find anything. Denmark doesn't have anything (so far) and I might get a scholarship through a Malaysian foundation but the chances are very slim, so I need more assistance.

I'm particularly looking at creative ideas for fundraising. For example, as most of my friends and peers are big partygoers, I'm thinking of throwing a party and raising funds through entry charges. Has anyone coordinated a party like this before? How were the logistics like and how did you cover costs? Also, how did you deal with liquor licensing? If you have the party in a bar/pub/some other place that already serves alcohol, would you still need to sort out licenses? Is it possible to get the costs for such a party sponsored?

I'm also looking for other creative ideas, be it for grants, fundraising, sponsorship, companies to contact (if any of you work in an airline contact me!!), or anything really. If you know of anyone that could be useful to me, please refer me to them too. I'm keeping a log of my progress over at http://wannabeakp.wordpress.com , so feel free to visit and cheer me on.

Thank you so much! I've gained a lot from this list and I greatly appreciate all the help.

Take care,

B*B, Tiara
