Hi Damian, You may want to look into
setting up a "chill out area" for the young people, this has been very
effective at other gigs, and they have a permanent one set up in Brisbane
which may be able to assisst you. Also for the AOD I don't know
what exactly you want, but you may be able to get in touch with MDECC (Manly
Drug and Alcohol Education Centre) in Manly re: their KIS project, and maybe
having them attend. They work on a harm minimisation approach and will go to
gigs doing quick surveys and provide information on drugs and grog to punters.
They provide lollie pops, condom packs, website cards for their website which
is full of drug and alcohol information www.kis.org.au Hope this
helps! Michelle
Where in this world....
Can a person find nobility without pride,
Friendship without envy or beauty without vanity?
Here, where grace is laced with muscle & strength
By gentleness he serves without servility, he has fought without
There is nothing less powerful, nothing less violent; is nothing so
quick, nothing more patient.

Dear
all,
Every year in the Blue Mountains we have a
large community event/festival called Winter Magic ... and ever
year large numbers of young people put themselves at risk of harm by
drinking.
(apart from the obvious health issues there are number
of assaults reported each year [including sexual assaults],
and there are a number of arrests).
This year we are working toward establishing a "youth safe place" in
the hope of minimizing harm.
Can anyone recommend or suggest any programs/strategies/supports etc
that have been successful in managing youth intoxication at events
???
We were hoping there might be a (AOD) service provided
in Sydney with a mobile team willing to come up for the
day/night?
We are also interested just to hear about the little things that people
have done that has been effective!
Any thoughts or suggests will be
greatly appreciated ...
