Don’t Trade Lives Campaign Launch
What is the Real Cost of Chocolate?
Your favourite chocolate bars this Easter might not taste so sweet when you consider that with each bite you are supporting an industry where children are forced to work long hours in dangerous conditions instead of going to school.
But YOU can take a stand against child labour and trafficking in the chocolate industry through the Don’t Trade Lives Campaign.
Join the Don’t Trade Lives Campaign Launch to hear Reverend Tim Costello, World Vision Chief Executive and David Batstone, author of Not For Sale, expose the incidence of child labour in West Africa’s cocoa fields. You can watch Tim now at Ghana's Gate of No Return (http://youtube.com/worldvisionstir)
At the Launch on April 4th you will hear about the critical issues of child labour and find out how you can take action by putting pressure on big chocolate manufacturers to reassess their supply chains and call on Australian retailers to stock ethical chocolate. Learn more about the campaign's asks by viewing its recent feature on the Sunday Program (http://video.msn.com/video.aspx?mkt=en-AU&brand=ninemsn&vid=a2776a48-c416-42e2-8ea8-e0bcd6676912)
Campaign Launch Details: Friday 4th April, 6-9pm, Carillo Gantner Theatre, Sidney Myer Asia Centre, Melb Uni, Swanston St (www.vgen.org/vicevents)
The Campaign Launch is part of a suite of Stir Sessions being organized by Vision Generation (VGen), World Vision’s national volunteer youth movement. VGen will be driving Don’t Trade Lives’ focus on child labour in West Africa and the Asia-Pacific throughout the year. Visit www.donttradelives.com.au to see where your state's Launch is.
