Hi All,
Some of you may or may not have
heard about the Youth Insearch program.
Youth
Insearch is a not for profit charity organisation. We work with you people aged
between 12 and 18 that come from a variety of different backgrounds. These
young people are young people who may be experiencing issues at home with
parents/carers, drug and alcohol issues, truancy, bullying at school, low self
esteem, abuse, grief and behaviour – including anger and attitude. We
also work with young people at risk of leaving school or who already disengaged
from school.
Youth
Insearch works on a peer to peer based model. The program aims to empower young
people to take responsibility of their own lives by giving them the opportunity
to develop their self esteem and play a positive role in society. The
objectives of our program are to:
·
To
reduce the incidence of crime, drug and alcohol abuse and suicide in young
people.
·
To
enhance young people’s self-esteem and productivity through empowering
them to take control of their lives.
·
To
break the cycle of family breakdown by giving young people some of the skills
essential in being a successful parent.
The
Youth Insearch program is facilitated through weekend camps that are conducted
in Sydney on a regular basis. The camps are facilitated by young people who
have had these types of experiences themselves and have overcome them, so are
able to share the resources they have learnt and used with other young people
who are currently facing similar issues. Young people are encouraged to build
positive peer networks allowing them to create a life away from negative influences.
A
typical camp would consist of approximately 50 young people and 10 to 15
supportive adults. Support adults are volunteers from the community including
youth workers, teachers, counsellors and police. All volunteers are required to
complete a Working with Children check.
Youth
Insearch receives referrals from many places including,
·
Schools
·
Police
·
Magistrates
·
Youth
Workers
·
Government
organisations
·
Non-
government organisations.
We are currently looking for people who would like to volunteer
their services in NSW as a support person. This will then allow more young
people that opportunity to access the program. Currently, there are young
people who are unable to attend camps as there is no support person to
attend the camp with them or to complete the follow up after the camp.
If
you would like to participate or would like more information, please give me a
call or drop me an email.
Regards,
Jenni
