INAUGURAL ISAAC AWARDS ANNOUNCED:

Indent rewards up and coming music event organisers

The next generation of music industry professionals flooded into Redfern Community Centre on March 14 for Indent’s inaugural ISAAC Awards. Taking their name from Indent’s mascot, the Indent Super-All-Ages-Crusader, the awards recognise the outstanding achievements of young people and support workers in their contribution to all-ages entertainment in NSW.

The awards were presented by Linda Burney, Minister for Fair Trading, Youth and Volunteering alongside Andy Kent (You Am I & MusicNSW Board Member) and special Key-note speaker Sahara Herald-Shepherd (National Coordinator – The Big Day Out Festival). The presentations were followed by skill development workshops in event management, covering booking bands, maximizing media exposure, safety/risk management and sponsorship.

In her address, Linda Burney said:“As Youth Minister I am really keen to promote a positive image of young people. I want to celebrate the diversity, the talents and the dreams of young people in NSW. And I want to promote ways that young people can participate in their communities and their government. Indent is a program that does all of this and more.”

The event also functioned as an open day, with the opportunity for young participants, many of whom travelled from regional NSW to network with other event organisers, Indent staff and music industry professionals. Workshops and panel discussions were led by Neil Hunt (Manager – The Beautiful Girls), Nick Tropiano (Chatterbox Records) and Michaella Solar-March (FBi Radio).
The inaugural ISAAC Awards were supported by ArtsNSW, The Big Day Out, Department of Community Services, Modular, Youth Action Policy Association (YAPA), Daniel Boud and Youth Safe. The day was deemed a great success with over 100 attendees walking away with a greater understanding and passion for the Australian music scene, as well as some stellar new contacts!
