Re: [YouthGAS_Exchange] Dual Diagnoses
Hi all
Just thought people would like to know that SANE Australia is a national charity that provides information and support to people – including young people -with a mental illness including those with dual diagnosis. SANE operates a Helpline number (1800 688 382) or you can check out the website >www.sane.org> where there is HelplineOnline, downloadable factsheets, information and research.
SANE also runs the Itsallright website <www.itsallright.org> which is for children and young teenagers who have a family member or friend who has a mental illness.
Regards
Ann

Hello Everyone,
I recently saw all the postings in regards to all the Young People being medicated for depression and the lack of counselling, follow-up etc... that doesn't come with the GP and other medical professionals prescribing anti-depressants for Young People.
I was wondering how often do you come across a AOD affected client whom meets the criteria to be labelled as a "dual diagnosed" individual? Also, how often do they not get combined treatment for their AOD and MH issues? Therefore requiring them to see a separate person for each issue?
I am amazed of either the limited facilities with trained clinicians in this area or the more common statement is that we do not accept those type of clients! Does anyone know of a website that has a consolidated list of AOD facilities in NSW, Mental Health and Dual Diagnoses that will treat Young People.
I have found that Young People are not seen as a recognized group per se, but is split at than above and below 18 phoneme.
Cheers,
Richard
