From:Kymberlee Senior <Kymberlee @.......au>

Hi all

As you may know, the Australian Drug Foundation is hosting a 3-day international conference entitled, Thinking Drinking: Achieving cultural change by 2020 (21 - 23 February 2005, Melbourne Australia).

"This conference will bring together expert generalists and futurists with alcohol experts to analyse social trends that will shape our future and to explore the implications for alcohol policy and practice. Conference participants will join invited speakers to develop the strategies we need to produce a healthier Australia & New Zealand by 2020."

Topics and speakers which may be of particular interest to YouthGAS Exchangers (to name just a few)...

Dr John Howard from the Ted Noffs Foundation will present on "Your Call", a joint initiative of the Ted Noffs Foundation and NSW Police. "Your Call" was developed to address NSW Police concerns about the extent of under-age drinking, especially in public spaces such as beaches and parks, and the associated risks ranging from intoxication, violence, unwanted and unprotected sex to family discord and school and work difficulties.

Dr Yvonne Bonomo (St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne), Dr Jo Lindsay (Monash University) and Zeah Behrend (NSW Commission for Children and Young People) will each focus on youth and alcohol including youth alcohol trends, youth drinking cultures both now and in the future and also what over 250 young people said about alcohol and how it affects their lives and communities in the lead up to the NSW Government's, 2003 Summit on Alcohol Abuse.

MCM Entertainment, Australia's leading radio syndication company will also discuss youth and technology/entertainment. MCM Entertainment creates, produces and distributes radio and television programmes in markets around the world including Take 40 Australia, Australia's longest running and most successfully national music radio programme hosted by Andrew G (of Channel V and Australian Idol fame).

If you would like to receive further information on this conference, including a conference program, please email thinking.drinking@adf.org.au.
