Wakakirri National Story Festival
Hi all,
I'd just like to a take a few minutes to introduce the Wakakirri National
Story Festival for schools and announce a series of free information nights.
This festival is an extension on Wakakirri Story-Dance, the
performing arts event for schools that many of you may be familiar with
already.
INTRODUCING THE WAKAKIRRI NATIONAL STORY FESTIVAL
Wakakirri National Story Festival is an annual festival and competition for
Australian schools. All primary and secondary schools are invited to create
stories and present and share their works at Wakakirri festivals held around
Australia. Schools from metro, regional and remote areas can all participate
- via either the live performances and involvement or via 'Outback
Wakakirri'.
The vision of the Wakakirri National Story Festival is to inspire students
to be creative and open minded about the world around them and to learn
about themselves and others by bringing schools together to share stories.
Wakakirri - as the Wakakirri Story-Dance event - has grown to be an
enormously popular event across Australia, thanks to philosophies of
accessibility, affordability and participation for all schools and the fun,
genuine outcomes experienced by teachers and students. Story-Dance also has
a strong environmental philosophy and framework for schools to work within.
In 2005 Wakakirri has been extended to a National Story Festival with six
separate competitions all geared around telling, performing and sharing
stories:
Story-Dance: Now in its 14th year. A Wakakirri Story-Dance is the creative
blend of movement and acting to tell a story on stage.
Story-Telling: Telling a story in a traditional verbal fashion in front of a
live audience.
Story-Singing: Singing an original song that tells a story live on stage.
Story-Writing: Students use creative writing to tells a story in 500 words
or less.
Story-Boarding: Use cartoons or comic book style storyboards to tell a story
on paper.
Story-Film: Schools can choose any story, any film style (animation, doco,
music clip, drama.) or a combination of styles to deliver a 5 minute short,
original work.

structure can be found our website.www.wakakirri.com
