FINAL FAB FIVE
PROVE THEY HAVE THE âWRITE STUFFâ
Five young Victo
rians were given a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity today
when they were selected to be the finalists of the Victor
ian Governmentâs
The Write Stuffcompetition.
James
Buonopane from Moonee Ponds, Clare Gleghorn from Ivanhoe,
Peter
Smiley from Northcote, Romy Ash from Fitzroy, and
Patrick Garson from
Mulgrave will set out on a journey
around Australia looking for stories
that celebrate comm
unity.
The Write Stuff competition is part of youthcen
tral, the new State
Government website that gives young
Victorians access to youth services,
resources and infor
mation across Government.
âThe Write Stuff is such a
n exciting opportunity. These five budding
writers will
receive training in journalism and then set out on the ro
ad
for youthcentral,â the Minister for Employment and
Youth Affairs, Jacinta
Allan, said today.
âThey wil
l travel around Australia to capture stories and images t
hat show
what âcommunityâ means to young people.â
The stories will be posted on youthcentral each week and
The Write Stuff
judges and the youthcentral Editorial T
eam will decide the winner. The
winning reporter will ea
rn a 12-month paid role as Content Editor for
youthcentr
al.
The competition will be judged by Oscar-winner Ada
m Elliott, Australian
netball champion Sharelle McMahon,
journalist Luke Dennehy, writer and
broadcaster Tony Wi
lson, and comedian and journalist Wil Anderson
Ms Alla
n announced the finalists at an event today to celebrate
their
achievement.
âThe quality of the entries for
The Write Stuff has been overwhelming.
There are many ta
lented young people in Victoria and youthcentral is a
gr
eat platform for nurturing and supporting them,â Ms All
an said.
âIt will be great for all Victorians to sup
port these young people and keep
track of their adventur
es via their stories on youthcentral. You can also
have
a say and vote for your favourite story each week.
â
youthcentral is exciting because it is opening up two-way
communication
between State Government and young Victor
ians.
âWe involved young people at every stage of yo
uthcentral â they developed
the concept, design and co
ntent. The Write Stuff takes this a step further
and off
ers a great employment and training opportunity in a fiel
d that can
be hard to break into.â For further inform
