Youth Conservation Corps
Round 7 RECRUITING
New Projects
Commencing May 2nd 2005
WANTED 15-24
year olds
Centrelink
Approved Mutual Obligation Activity
Volunteering was
once synonymous with serving meals at a soup kitchen or helping out in a
charity shop. Today, as a volunteer you can choose from thousands of different
opportunities, from being a youth mentor helping conserve South Australia’s
natural and cultural heritage to being part of the team.
While it's common knowledge that people who get
involved in hand-on activities do a world of good for community organisations
people are waking up to the fact that helping out can also bring many benefits
to the volunteers themselves. Did you know, for example, that over 70% of
employers would hire a candidate with volunteering experience over someone who
has never volunteered? Just a couple of hours a week can really enhance your
job prospects, help plug any gaps in your work experience and give you a range
of new skills.
Volunteering offers you the chance to have amazing
experiences, make friends with people from all walks of life, and who knows,
perhaps even lead to the job of your dreams!
As a volunteer you are exposed to new situations,
experiences, and a wide range of people so it helps develop the confidence to
try different things. Knowing that your skills are valued and you are
contributing to your community can be a tremendous confidence boost, helping to
increase self esteem. If the thought of polishing your CV, improving your
skills and self-confidence and meeting new and interesting people isn't enough
of an incentive, there are even health benefits associated with volunteering.
It has been medically proven that 'doing good' can give
you a heightened sense of well-being, a stronger immune system, a speedier
recovery from surgery and a positive attitude to all obstacles life throws at
you!
Greening Australia’s Community

First Aid and Certificate 1 Conservation and Land Management. Projects have a
hands-on focus with the aim of linking you to employment in your chosen
field. So, the benefits will be noticed on your CV as well in your
attitude.
