Subject:[youthgas] Free Public Lectures on Child Psychiatric 'Disorders' (South West/East Qld)
Date:Monday, July 18, 2005  13:39:12 (+1000)
From:David Powell (YANQ) <ndo @........au>

Good Afternoon All,
(apologies for cross posting)

This is to announce a number of free, public lectures in South West and
South East Queensland.

*********************************************
Celebrate, Don't Medicate: How Psychiatric Diagnoses and Drugs are
Hurting Queensland's Children
*********************************************

Free Public Lectures, All Welcome.
Presented by the Youth Affairs Network of Queensland and featuring:
Bob Jacobs Psy.D (Children's Lawyer and Psychologist)

Bob Jacobs (Psy.D), the author of "Queensland Children at Risk: The
Overdiagnosis of ADHD and the overuse of Stimulant medication" will be
visiting South East/West Queensland presenting lectures on ADHD and
other so called childhood mental disorders. The seminars will argue that:
- There is no proof that "ADHD" is a brain disorder of any sort.
- When a child misbehaves it doesn't mean he or she is 'sick'.
- Children needn't take drugs to solve behavioural 'problems'.
- 'ADHD' drugs are potentially dangerous.
- It is wrong to label a healthy, normal child.

It is time to get back to celebrating the uniqueness and beauty of every
child. The Youth Affairs Network of Queensland (YANQ), Queensland's
peak youth agency, has been concerned about this issue for some time and
is offering these free public lectures to encourage community debate
about the medicalisation of children's behaviour.

Dates of Lectures:

- Gold Coast, August 1

- Ipswich, August 2
- North Brisbane, August 3
- Maryborough, August 4
- Bundaberg, August 5
- Sunshine Coast, August 6
- Charleville, August 8
- Roma, August 9
- Logan, August 10
- Toowoomba, August 11
- Inner Brisbane, August 12

All Lecture times: 6:30pm – 8:30pm.
Except: Sunshine Coast: 2pm - 4pm; and Logan, 7pm - 9pm.

For details including venues, please contact David Powell on 3844 7713
