From 30th September to 2nd October 2005, the Youth Forum of the 33rd
UNESCO General Conference will be held at the UNESCO Headquarters in
Paris. This 4th UNESCO Youth Forum, now an integral part of the
General Conference - the highest decision-making body of the
organization - will be highly visible and is a unique opportunity for
young people to express and exchange their ideas, make their voice
heard and ensure their views are integrated in UNESCO's programmes
and policies. This year's theme will be ' Young People and the
Dialogue among Civilisations, Cultures and Peoples - Ideas for action
in education, the sciences, culture and communication'.
The Australian National Commission for UNESCO is currently calling
for expressions of interest for participation in the UNESCO Youth
Forum. As the Young Member on the National Commission, I will lead
the delegation, and one additional delegate place is available.
Potential delegates - young Australians aged 12-25 active in UNESCO's
areas of work - are invited to nominate for the second position
(UNESCO prefers gender-balanced delegations, so preference will be
given to female applicants). Participation of the second delegate
would be on a fully self-funded basis: costs to be covered would
include travel, accommodation and meals.
In order to finalise the delegation as soon as possible, please send
expressions of interest to me by SUNDAY 22nd AUGUST via email, which
I will pass onto the National Commission. Apologies for the
exceptionally short deadline, but the composition of the National
Commission itself was only very recently finalised.
Further information can be found at the UNESCO youth website (http://
www.unesco.org/youth/), the TakingITGlobal UNESCO Youth Forum website
(http://unesco.takingitglobal.org/), and the attached official UNESCO
invitation to participate. Also, please don't hesitate to contact me
if you have any queries.
Cheers,
Alan Wu
